*ส.ว.Amanda Vanstone กล่าวเมื่อวานนี้
(เป็น) รัฐมนตรีในคณะรัฐมนตรีมาแล้วถึง 11 ปีจนถึงมกราคม ส.ว.Vanstone กล่าวว่า
โครงการภาษาแห่งชาติน่าจะมีประโยชน์ ต่อออสเตรเลียแก่คนรุนหลัง ๆ ในอนาคต
"ถ้าข้าพเจ้าปกครองออสเตรเลีย...ข้าพเจ้าคงจะทำให้เด็ก ๆ ทุกคนตั้งแต่ปี 1เรียนแมนดาริน
หรืออินโดนีเซียคงจะเลี่ยงไม่เรียนไม่ได้ และพวกเข้าคงต้องเรียนถึงปี 12 มิฉะนั้น
พวกเข้าก็จะ ไม่ประสบความสำเร็จในการเรียนภาษา
"เอเชียอยูในโลกส่วนที่เป็นของเรา เป็นที่ที่เราตั้งอย่เราน่าจะยอมรับความจริงนี้"
ในงานเลี้ยงอาหารกลางวันโดย Global Foundation ส.ว.Vanstone กล่าวว่า
ทุกระดับในสังคม ออสเตรเลียจำเป็นจะต้องพยายามมากขึ้นเพื่อ
เชื่อมกับเพื่อนบ้านในเอเชีย
"ข้าพเจ้ามีความเสน่หาต่ออเมริกาอย่างลึกซึ่ง เขาเป็นพัธมิตรของเราและเป็นไปได้ด้วยว่าเป็น
เพื่อนที่ดีที่สุดของเรา เขาและสหราชอาณาจักรแต่สำหรับข้าพเจ้าแล้ว จีนคืออเมริกาใหม่แต่ไม่ใช่
ในแง่ว่าเหมือนอเมริกาแบบ 100% เลย แต่จีนเป็นประเทศที่ใหญ่มากเป็นเศรษฐกิจที่ทรงพลัง
ยิ่งใหญ่ด้วยประชากรเป็นพัน ๆ ล้าน และข้าพเจ้าคิดว่าเราจำเป็นต้องเปลี่ยนแนวคิดไปในทาง
ที่เรายังไม่ได้ที่ยอมรับกัน"
ส.ว. Vanstone ยอมรับว่าความคิดนี้คงจะยากที่จะเริ่มตันปฏิบัติให้เป็นจริงได้..

Every Year 1 child in Australia should learn Mandarin of Bashasa
Indonesia, and be taught it untill Year 12 , Senator Amanda Vanstone
said yester day.
A Cabinet minister for 11 years until January, Senator Vanstone said
a nationwide schools language program would benefit Australia for
future generations. "If I were in charge of Australia...I would ensure
that every child from Year 1 was learning either Mandarin of Bashasa
Indonesia. There'd be not way around it, and they would learn it all
the way through(school), otherwise they just wouldn't progress.
"It (Asia) is our part of the world, that's where we sit, why can't
we recognise that.
At a lunch hosted by the Global Foundation, Senator Vanstone said
all levels of Australia society needed to do more to connect with
Asian neighbours.
"I have are our ally and probably our greatest friend, they and the
United Kingdom. But, for my own part, China is the new America,
not in the sense of being an exact fasimile but it is huge nation, it's
a huge powerhouse economy, with billions of people, and I think
we need to change perspective in Australia in way that we haven't
yet recognised."
Senator Vanstone conceded her idea might struggle
to get off the ground..
